Place Pins, Trending TV Shows and JCVD is Still Tough as Nails | This Week in Social Media

Pinterest wants to help plan your next vacation

With 1.5 million travel-related pins every day, Pinterest wants to move in on the travel business. The company announced this week it was introducing Place Pins. Place Pins allow Pinterest users to add a map to boards and map out locations they’d like to visit. These maps would then be visible on smartphones and tablets for the traveler on the go. This new option can be done for broad plans like states to visit on a road trip – right down to the specific gastropubs and hotels you want to stay at.  Oh the places you’ll go!

Twitter increases live-tweeting ease

Many Walking Dead Game of Thrones television viewers enjoy live-tweeting during their favorite shows to connect with, share and discuss what’s happening during their program. Now, Twitter is making it even easier to do just that with new trending TV shows banners on iOS and Android mobile applications. These banners include information like the tweets being sent out about a show as well as when and where it airs. The banners are accessible by checking out the “Discover” tab.

Jean-Claude Van Damme is still crazy

We mean that in the best way possible, of course! A new Volvo ad debuted this week featuring the martial arts star doing the splits between TWO MOVING SEMIS! Set to a rather lovely Enya song, the ad is meant to demonstrate the “stability and precision of Volvo Dynamic Steering”. Of course, the only thing everyone can focus on was the 53 year old Van Damme doing the splits like a boss. The video has been viewed about 41 million times since being released last week. Of course, it didn’t take long for amazing spoofs to appear…
