HMV employees livetweet mass firing on company’s Twitter feed
British entertainment retailer HMV learned a lesson in HR this Thursday when several employees hijacked the company’s Twitter feed—which has over 73,000 followers—to broadcast their “mass execution.” The rogue employee, 21-year-old Poppy Rose Cleer, started at HMV as an intern before accepting a full-time position as the company’s social media planner. “I wanted to show the power of Social Media to those who refused to be educated,” said Cleer of her decision to send the offending tweets, adding that senior staff members “never seemed to grasp” how important social media was in building links between themselves and customers. “I hope they’re finally listening,” Cleer tweeted. According to the Daily Mail, around 190 employees both at the music firm’s London headquarters and across its distribution centers were fired.
Tumblr kills pinned posts
Tumblr’s pinned post feature, which allowed users of the popular blogging platform to pin content to the top of every follower’s Dashboard, debuted this June to a flurry of negative attention from longtime fans. Users could pay $5 to pin a post, and just $2 to highlight a post in the Dashboard with an attention-grabbing icon or phrase. This week, both features disappeared. This platform change follows last week’s updated Dashboard design.
9-year-old Robby Novak has warmed the hearts of just about every human on the planet this week with a viral video encouraging all of us to quit crying about our problems—and dance about them instead. “The world needs you to stop being boring,” asserts the undeniably adorable Novak, who first donned his tiny suit and Kid President moniker this October with the help of his camera-savvy brother-in-law. “Boring is easy. Everybody can be boring. But you’re gooder than that.” Already impressively upbeat and insightful at just 9 years old, Kid President’s story has even greater meaning to friends and family—Novak suffers from a rare brittle bone condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta. Over 75 broken bones since birth and this kid’s still schooling all of us adults in the positivity department. Kid President 2016!
